The Center for Girls was founded on April 15, 1998, on the initiative of two volunteers of SOS Helpline for Women and Children Victims of Violence. The aim of its foundation was to improve the social position of young women through their education and emancipation.
THE MISSION of the Center for Girls is girls' and young women's empowerment through education, activism and creativity.
Women Empowered for the Next Step Project involved workshops on the prevention against gender-based violence and self-defence trainings, which were organized with the joint effort of the Center for Girls and Plant Association during the months of May and June. The final conference of the project was attended by HE Julia Feeney, an Australian Ambassador to Serbia.
On September 16, the exhibition of the art works created in the second Feminist Art Colony organized by the Center for Girls was opened at ART55 Gallery (opposite the Faculty of Philosophy, 17a Ćirila i Metodija Street). The second Feminist Art Colony took place in Sićevo, from July 24 to July 31, 2016.
The Summer Olympics are under way and it is a real pleasure to listen to the commentators using gender-sensitive words for sports persons during the live coverage. However, gender-sensitive language cannot be heard that often in everyday speech, and it should not be so because what we have then is language discrimination.
