The Center for Girls was founded on April 15, 1998, on the initiative of two volunteers of SOS Helpline for Women and Children Victims of Violence. The aim of its foundation was to improve the social position of young women through their education and emancipation.
THE MISSION of the Center for Girls is girls' and young women's empowerment through education, activism and creativity.
Towards the end of February 2017, the Center for Girls organized the first Regional Conference on the problem of human trafficking entitled "Only United Can We Stop Human Trafficking". The relevant speakers from the institutions and non-governmental organizations dealing with this problem in the region took part at the conference:
One Billion Rising global campaign, run everywhere in the world on February 14th, was also joined by the activists of the Center for Girls. Twenty girls danced to the song ''Break the Chain'', a hymn of the campaign, in the main pedestrian zone in Niš.
The Center for Girls did a training about human trafficking for peer educators at the end of January and the beginning of February 2017. The training was organized for the new, young activists of the Center for Girls. In the training, the girls gained necessary knowledge about human trafficking, its forms and the means of prevention.
