The Center for Girls was founded on April 15, 1998, on the initiative of two volunteers of SOS Helpline for Women and Children Victims of Violence. The aim of its foundation was to improve the social position of young women through their education and emancipation.
THE MISSION of the Center for Girls is to empower children, girls and women through support, education, activism and creativity.
Around twenty activists and friends of the Center for Girls held a street action called "Rape is a crime that must be taken seriously in Serbia", on the occasion of a sensationalistic interview with a convicted rapist published by Informer, but also on the occasion of all other unethical reporting by print and online media about sexual violence.
Activists of the Center for Girls held a street action in the center of Nis, as part of the global campaign #OneBillionRising, to express solidarity with the women of Iran, on the occasion of the murder of Mahsa Amini (22) and the murders and violence committed against other Iranian women who rebelled against the so-called "moral police". which punishes women for "improper dressing".
Activists of the Center for Girls performed the performance "Women's Graveyard" on the occasion of the 24 femicides that have occurred since the beginning of this year.
