Upon the completion of the first year of the project Active in the Struggle for Girls' Safer Life and Better Position in the Society, the activists of the Center for Girls carried out an evaluation of the project on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. After the first year of the project implementation, we concluded that the project is significant out of the following reasons:

  • we can provide girls with the support to identify and react to violence, and to break out of it;
  • we can improve cooperation with the institutions and among the institutions;
  • citizens and experts have become involved in the important topics;
  • we can discover new areas where feminism in Serbia has not been involved yet, such as the art colony;
  • we can build the capacities of the Center and, in that way, provide professional support to our clients;
  • the problem of violence is getting more visible in Niš;
  • the Center is becoming visible in Niš and the region;
  • we can further develop, educate, learn and acquire new knowledge;
  • it opens up new possibilities;
  • we can meet women from the feminist movement from the the whole region and make new friendships;
  • it allows us to work what we love and what we believe in, and
  • it allows us to put together a great team.

A year into the implementation of this project has taught us that the persistence always pays off, that team work is extremely important, and that only in that way can we achieve anything, regardless the circumstances. We have also learned that children are interested in difficult topics, but it is important to approach them in an appropriate way. This is primarily evident in the good attendance of high-school students at the forum theatre performance called (UN)SAFE. We have also learned that a successful organization of events requires including credible speakers and all interested parties. Another important lesson is that it is essential to keep on building trust and meeting more often for the better cooperation among the members of the Regional Young Feminist Network.

The following activities are planned in the next 12 months of the project:

  • the Women's Health Week at the end of May,
  • the second Feminist Art Colony at the end of June,
  • the third ArtFemine Festival in the middle of July,
  • the meeting of the Regional Young Feminist Network in September,
  • the conference dedicated to the problem of women trafficking in October,
  • at the end of November, the conference dedicated to the problem of gender-based violence and
  • the project Active in the Struggle for Girls' Safer Life and Better Position in the Society, lasting until March 2018 and financed by OAK and TRAG Foundations within the EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN'S ORGANIZATIONS AND MOVEMENTS COMBATING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN SERBIA, AND BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA Program.
