On May 18, activists of the Regional Network SOUTH - Women Against Violence marked the Day of Remembrance of Women Victims of Violence in Leskovac by discussing the phenomenon of femicide with representatives of institutions and the media.
Femicide is the murder of a woman by a man, just because she is a woman. It is motivated by hatred of women and the belief that a man has the right to own and control a woman's life and body. In Serbia, an average of 30 women are killed every year as a result of family and intimate partner violence. These data are collected by women's non-governmental organizations from the media, given that the official state register of victims of femicide still does not exist.
