The Center for Girls was founded on April 15, 1998, on the initiative of two volunteers of SOS Helpline for Women and Children Victims of Violence. The aim of its foundation was to improve the social position of young women through their education and emancipation.
THE MISSION of the Center for Girls is to empower children, girls and women through support, education, activism and creativity.
Activists of the Center for Girls in Niš held a street action on the occasion of the femicide that happened in Vršac, when a father killed his 3 years old daughter, drowning her in a bucket of water, after the Center for Social Work allowed him to see the child, even though the girl's mother reported domestic violence several times in the past.
Over two thousand people saw the street action of the Center for Girls, held on the occasion of the European Day against Human Trafficking.
Around twenty activists and friends of the Center for Girls held a street action called "Rape is a crime that must be taken seriously in Serbia", on the occasion of a sensationalistic interview with a convicted rapist published by Informer, but also on the occasion of all other unethical reporting by print and online media about sexual violence.
