Even better energy and better weather has dominated, compared to last year’s, at the second Feminist Art Colony in Sićevo, organized by the Center for girls. Artists from 22 to 38 years of age from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Macedonia have created in the period from July 24-31, 2016.

Mutual socializing and getting to know the artists began back in Nis, at the Center for girls, where they slowly gathered and were waiting for transport to take them for a week to the magical Sićevo where, thanks Nadežda Petrović, art colony have been held for 111 years.

"The thought of this incredible artist and activists, and the place where we are staying and creating gives me joy because I feel that I became a part of history," said Maja Jovanović, an artist from Leskovac, who is astonished that in this colony she met incredible, courageous women, who, she claims, are that often found in her environment.

"It is very important the fact that I was very relaxed when I was working. I did not feel any pressure, nor by a colleague, and above all, neither because I had to do some work to get it sold and survive on that money for a couple of days, "added Maja Jovanović who through her work expresses the rebellion because, while attending the High vocational school of fashion design, had to keep certain measures when it comes to a woman's body and otherwise does not support that.

Doroti Packova is an artist and single mother from Skopje, who was also thrilled at Nadežda and Sićevo. "It was unbelievable, but it is sad that so many years later, we are still struggling with some problems that she struggled," she noted, adding that it is important there are fighters and strong women, such as other artists and us, organizers of colonies. "I'm happy here, because here I can be what I am, here I can be a mother and you have enabled me to have a child here with me, to at the same time work and be a mother. I am happy because the communication between us is excellent, as we create independently and invent things together, "explained Dorothy.

"Nadežda Petrović - a self-portrait in plural," the first time in Sićevo

During the second night of feminist art colony, on July 25, thanks to the Centre for the girls the play "Nadežda Petrović – A self-portrait in plural." was performed. After 15 performances in Belgrade, Pirot, Vranje and Niš, director of the play and actress Dragana Jovanović and the young actress Bratislava Milić have performed the first play, where it is long overdue - in the area of Sićevo Art Colony.

In the audience were over 70 people, associates and collaborators of the Center for girls, locals and women from The Circle of Serbian Sisters, whose founder was Nadežda herself…

Dragana Jovanović created this performance in order to bring the the work and life of Nadežda Petrović, closer to the public, to inform them about all the things she was doing and with whom she dealt with and fought throughout his life. She succeeded in this, but is also responsible because some artist first heard of Nadežda.

"I am fascinated by the fact that the colony in Sićevo exists since 1905, honestly, this is the first time I heard of Nadežda Petrović and I would like to read more about her because I see that she was a fascinating woman. I worked on the comic about Slava Raškaj who was also fascinating, and I cannot believe what these women managed to do 100 years ago, and just when you think of them you cannot say today that something cannot be done ", shared her enthusiasm Lea Kralj Jager from Zagreb. The significance of the colony for her is that it is great for networking, by the power of the community and great support, which gives the opportunity to continue doing this even when, as she says, people are condemned, like-minded people recharge you. Bojana Stamenković from Čačak, currently studying, living and working in Vienna was very excited at the thought of staying in a place that is ,by her fellow citizen, recognized as excellent for maintaining colonies. "I am delighted because some women in Serbia launched Feminist artists' colony. And it was amazing because from Čačak I went to Vienna and there from a colleague Sanja Solunac learned of the contest and came back here, where Nadežda, who was born in Čačak, launched a colony ", with the enthusiasm retold her impressions Bojana whose engagement in the feminist work was encouraged when during her studies in Belgrade, had lectures and where 90% ofartists she had learned about were male.

"Watercolor that I currently work on depicts one of the scenes from the film 'Virgina' that deals with gender issues and sex issues. A scene from the film reminds me of the fact that in some bare mountains occurs such a phenomenon.

This is all happening at the places where the social impacts are weak, where education is very poor, where there are a few people, where we have a deep-rooted patriarchy against which nobody fights, not even tries to, " explained in detail about her work Bojana Stamenković, adding details about her work: “I wash out watercolor and bring it to a state of nakedness of the stone that reminds me of the virgins, and the rocks and "karsts" in the areas where they live. The stone appearance of the stone is very interesting, stone to me is a symbol of the problem - the rock where nothing grows, the hill where is a failure not to be born a man and that problem is solved by the girls turning into a man. That “lack of quality” is symbolized by the stone. "

And the quality and character of feminist art colony is recognized by the Foundations OAK and Trag, that provided financial support for its maintenance.
