Members of the Women Against Violence network (Center for Girls Niš, Women for Peace Leskovac, SOS Vlasotince, Independent Women's Center Dimitrovgrad) performed the reading performance "Vagina Monologues"in Dimitrovgrad yesterday.

The audience had the opportunity to hear texts that talk about the female body, health, violence against women, the different ways in which we can love our body, but also how it, unfortunatelly, ca be stigmatized.

We would like to thank the Art Gallery "Metodi Meta Petrov" for the space provided.

"Vagina Monologues" were written by the American writer and activist V (previously Eve Ensler), and today they are performed around the world as part of the action "One Billion Rising Against Violence Against Women", the action initiated by V in 2013, as a reaction to the worrying statistics of the United Nations that 1 in 3 women will be beaten, raped or psychologically abused during their lifetime. Since there were 7 billion people living in the world at that time, this meant that over a billion women experienced some form of violence. With the current world population of 8 billion, that number is unfortunately even higher.

The performance was supported by OAK and the Trag Foundation.
