10TH FEMINIST ART COLONY FINISHED
The 10th Feminist Art Colony was successfully held in Sićevo. Ten artists from Croatia and Serbia participated: Mirta Brkulj (Zadar, Croatia), Lea Čepić (Rijeka, Croatia), Nataša Tomić (Belgrade, Serbia), Marija Jovanović (Belgrade, Serbia), Tatjana Marticki Cvejin Cvejin (Novi Sad, Serbia), Katarina Drenjanin (Obrenovac, Serbia), Dara Bošković (Babušnica, Serbia), Jovana Đorđević (Niš, Serbia), Mina Stefanović (Niš, Serbia) and Sanja Solunac (Belgrade, Serbia).
The colony started with a gathering and taking group photo in front of the Nadežda Petrović’ Monument and a performance in the Fortress, “OooKamenjene (Petrified) – Jelena Dimitrijević”, directed and performed by the actress, Dragana Jovanović.

On the second day of the colony, an introductory workshop was held, where the artists had the opportunity to learn about the history of the Center for Girls and the Feminist Art Colony and the activist and artistic program of the Center for Girls, and we about their creativity, the topics they deal with and the inspiration that inspires them. starts. After that, the materials were distributed, and then the artists started working. In the evening, the performance “Nadežda Petrović – Self-Portrait in the Plural” was held in the courtyard of the art colony complex, directed by Dragana Jovanović and performed by Dragana Jovanović and Bratislava Milić.


On the third, fourth and fifth day of the colony, the artists had the opportunity to attend the Empowering Self-Defense workshops, led by Tatjana Nikolić. They learned the communication formula, 5 principles of self-defense, 5 grips and 3 strikes for physical self-defense; they learned how to be more assertive and say “NO” loudly, to recognize potential danger, to be aware of their surroundings, they learned how to get out of a violent situation, run away and defend themselves physically. The artists used the rest of the day for creative work.

On the sixth day of the colony, the artists continued their work, and then they participated in a workshop on gender-sensitive language, led by Sara Plazinić. On that occasion, they exchanged their views and experiences, broke some prejudices and learned more about why it is important to use gender-sensitive language, how it increases the visibility of women in public life, as well as what is the situation in Serbia with the Law on Gender Equality, which prescribes the use of gender sensitive language. In the evening, in the colony complex, they had the opportunity to watch the author’s play of the actress and director Maja Mitić, “In the Embrace of the Forgotten”, which talks about the forgotten women from our history, culture and science, as well as the women who influenced the author’s professional and personal path.


On the seventh day of the colony, the artists finished their works and left three of their best works each to the Center for Girls.

The Feminist Art Colony received support from the Swiss government, as part of the “Culture for Democracy” project, which is run by the Hartefakt Fund.
