The Center for Girls was entrusted with promoting the prevention of human  trafficking in Niš.
  • ASTRA financially supported the Center for Girls to master the topic of human trafficking.

  • Forty-five workshops and six lectures were held.
  • Labris’s project, Education of women’s groups about gay rights through a series of workshops and lectures, took place in Niš, Belgrade, and Novi Sad.
2004.

• As part of the Women’s Health Project, six workshops on the topic of Violence against women and its impact on women’s health were held at the Filip Filipović Secondary School with second-grade students.

2005.
  • Seven workshop participants held 141 workshops in five secondary schools in Niš – the result was 2,126 educated participants, and the project was supported by the Global Fund for Women 2004/2005.
2006.
  • The Center for Girls submitted a statement to the court and signed a petition regarding the case of Pahomije, the priest who sexually abused children.
2007.
  • Sixteen days of activism against male violence against women was organized, a performance was held, and pamphlets were distributed.
  • The Center for Girls signed the Incest Trauma Center’s initiative to introduce the topic of violence prevention into school programs.
  • The Global Fund for Women supported the implementation of 375 workshops.
  • Fourteen workshops were held on human trafficking prevention within the ASTRA network.
2008.
  • Tatjana Nikolić designed the first independent project, which was supported by the Reconstruction Women’s Fund.
  • The tenth anniversary of the Center for Girls, the publication of the book Ten, and the launching of the official website of the Center for Girls.
  • The Center for Girls signed the petition initiated by the SOS Torture Network against the death penalty for crimes committed as a child and the online petition of the Women’s Lobby 50/50 Campaign for equal participation of women in the European Parliament.
2009.
  • A protocol on cooperation on a local strategy action plan for the youth of the city of Niš was signed between the mayor of Niš and non-governmental organizations dealing with youth.
  • The American Center from Niš invited activists from the Center for Girls to organize

workshops and mark Women’s Month – six volunteer workshops were held.

  • 207 workshops were held, and on that occasion, 2,733 participants were educated on 7 different topics within the project supported by the MAMA CASH foundation.
2010.
  • The Center for Girls signed a petition to place a memorial plaque in Jelena Šantić Park, a park named after the famous ballerina, peace activist, and founder of the 484 Group.
  • The Center for Girls supported Nevena Petrušić, dean of the Faculty of Law in Niš and a long-time activist, for the post of Commissioner for the Protection of Equality.
  • FemiNiš (a festival of women’s activism and art) was organized.
  • The official Facebook page of the Center for Girls was launched.
  • The Center for Girls submitted a new statute and other documentation for the mandatory re-registration of the women’s association.
2011.
  • A meeting was held in the Women’s Space with Jill, a volunteer from America who wants to do The Vagina Monologues.
  • The International Conference on Prostitution and Trafficking was held in Copenhagen. Tatjana from the Center for Girls and Marija from Astra visited two shelters, the Parliament and the City Assembly, and invited the housewives, Gerd and Toni, to come to FemiNiš.
  • The Center for Girls had 1,035 workshops and educated 14,361 participants.
2012.
  • The Vagina Monologues were performed in front of a packed theater hall in Niš, in the presence of Eve Ensler, the author of the Vagina Monologues, and an activist from Zagreb, Rada Borić.
  • Eve Ensler’s Good Body performance was held eight times by three Center activists.
  • The third FemiNiš was organized in cooperation with Women’s Space.
2013.
  • The Center for Girls joined the global campaign One Billion Rising to end violence against women, together with the Osvit association of Roma women.
2014.
  • The Center for Girls started coordinating with the Anti-trafficking (former Astra) network.
  • The ArtFemine festival of feminist activism and art took place.
  • The first meeting of the Regional Network of Young Feminists was organized.
  • A street action was held on women’s right to legal abortion.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls performed the play Waiting Room, based on the text  of Jasmina Tešanović.
2015.
  • The Vagina Monologues were read on Super Radio on International Women’s Day, and the activists of the Center for Girls, in cooperation with the Commission for Gender Equality and Equal Opportunities of the City of Niš, organized the International Women’s Day March.
  • Support came from the OAK and Trag foundations.
  • A study on the Sexual abuse of children in Serbia was conducted, and the official  bearer of this study was the Incest Trauma Center from Belgrade.
  • The first Feminist Art Colony was held in Sićevo.
  • During the month of the fight against human trafficking, the Center for Girls organized a humanitarian party, where water and food were collected for the refugees who, at that time, were hungry and waiting for days to enter the Reception Center in Preševo.
  • Members of the Center for Girls and the SOS telephone for women and children victims of violence in Vlasotince visited the Preševo Reception Center and distributed the collected assistance to refugees.
  • The first conference on the problem of violence against women was held.
  • Training on Strengthening the capacity of CSOs and public officials’ competence to implement anti-discrimination policies in the Nišava District.
  • An exhibition of works from the art colony in Sićevo was opened in the Leskovac Cultural Center. 2016
  • The Center for Girls participated in the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls had forum-theatre training.
  • The Center for Girls and the Plant association implemented the Empowered Women for the Next Step project, funded by the Australian Embassy in Serbia.
  • Emotional Creature by Eve Ensler premiered in the theater of the Student Cultural Center.
  • The training was organized by the Trag Foundation on the topic of fundraising, and the first fundraising event was organized at the Niš Cultural Center through the performance of the play Emotional Creature and a cocktail.
  • In cooperation with the network “Iz Kruga” – Serbia and “Iz Kruga” – Niš, the Center for Girls prepared a forum-theatre play, (In)visible, performed during the Week of Women with Disabilities.
2016.
  • Centar za devojke učestvovao je u obeležavanju Evropske nedelje prevencije raka grlića  materice.
  • Aktivistkinje Centra za devojke prošle su obuku za forum-teatre.
  • Centar za devojke, zajedno sa udruženjem Plant realizovao je projekat Osnažene žene za sledeći korak, finansiran od strane Ambasade Australije u Srbiji.
  • Premijerno je izvedena predstava Ja sam emotvno biće Iv Ensler u pozorištu Studentkog kulturnog centra.
  • Održan je trening u organizaciji Trag fondacije na temu prikupljanja sredstava (fundraising) i organizovan je prvi događaj prikupljanja sredstava u Niškom kulturnom centru, kroz izvođenje predstave Ja sam emotivno biće i koktel.
  • U saradnji sa mrežom Iz kruga – Srbija i Iz kruga – Niš Centar za devojke pripremio je forum teatar (Ne)vidljive, koji su aktivistkinje izvele tokom Nedelje žena sa invaliditetom.
2017.
  • The first Regional Conference on the problem of human trafficking was held.
  • A silent auction of paintings created at the Feminist Art Colony in Sićevo was held the organizer was Julia Finney, the ambassador of Australia.
  • The UN Trust Fund supported the Center for Girls.
  • Four free sports classes were held during the fifth Women’s Health Week.
  • A training session was held for forum-theatre trainers.
2018.
  • In the organization of the Center for Girls in Niš, the conference Forms of Human Trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Serbia was held, which was attended by 73 people from different cities, institutions, and organizations.
  • The jubilee fifth ArtFemine festival began with the opening of the exhibition of photographs of the Feminist Movement in the region, after which the premiere of the performance Invisible 45+, prepared in cooperation with Dragana Jovanović, actress of the Niš National Theatre and Sanja Solunac held the panel titled Irony, truth, struggle, and form, with the following speakers: Bojana Stamenković, a visual artist and curator from Čačak who lives and works in Vienna, Biljana Dojčinović, professor of literature at the Faculty of Philology at the University of Belgrade and one of the founders of the Center for Women’s Studies in Belgrade, Dragana Jovanović, an actress of the National Theater of Niš, and Aleksandra TKV, an artist who does street art.
  • During four days in Lukovska Banja, 16 girls from Užice, Prijepolje, Vlasotince, and Niš increased their knowledge about violence against girls through creative ways of learning and acquired performance skills with elements of forum theater. Tatjana Nikolić and Silvija Mihajlović held the training.
  • The Center for Girls started the Sixteen Days of Activism against Violence against  Women campaign with the Prevention of Violence against Girls and Women workshops and the performance of Emotional Creature at the School of Textiles and Design in Leskovac.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls had a four-hour meeting and workshop with 60 future psychologists at the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš.
2019.
  • On the occasion of the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, the activists of the Center for Girls distributed as many as 800 leaflets on preventing cervical cancer in the crowded Obrenovićeva Street in Niš.
  • As part of the One Billion Rising campaign, there was a reading play of the Vagina Monologues and a dance to the song Break the Chain.
  • In the Center for Girls organization, a conference titled Effects of the Implementation of the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence and Challenges in the Work of Relevant Institutions and Organizations was held. The speakers were activists and representatives of non-governmental organizations and state institutions.
  • The Invisible 45+ play was performed for the fifth time.
  • The twenty-first birthday of the Center for Girls was celebrated.
  • A regional conference on the problem of human trafficking was held in Niš titled The possibility of a more effective fight against human trafficking in Serbia and the region, where the following spoke: Sabina Talović – Bona Fide Open Center, Mirsada Bajramović – Land of Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Miloš Đorđević – PD Niš, Milica Stanković – The Appellate Court, Tatjana Stevanović – Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office; Zdravka Gigov – The Home Duško Radović, Aleksandra Ljubojević – Center for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking, Sanja Sretić – Center for Social Work, prof. Dr. Milan Žarković.
  • The jubilee fifth Feminist Art Colony in Sićevo was realized. As an accompanying program, the plays The Petrified – Jelena Dimitrijević, Emotional Creature, Nadežda Petrović, a self-portrait in the plural, and Invisible 45+ were performed.
  • As part of the Nashville Jazz Festival, the activists of the Center for Girls premiered the performance/play Daughter, for which they received the award for the best perfor- mance by the jury’s unanimous decision.
  • A series of training sessions for peer educators within the Women’s NGO Anti-Traf-ficking Network project in cooperation with Roma organizations and institutions against human trafficking in Serbia was successfully carried out. OAK and Trag foundations supported the project.
  • The Center for Girls joined feminist activists from Croatia with the street action Justice for Girls on the occasion of the decision of the court in Zadar to release five rapists of a minor girl from prison.
  • At the end of the year in Niš, the conference Prevention and combating violence against women and human trafficking was organized, which was attended by over 50 people. The conference took place in the building of the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls organized a rally in support of Marija Lukić in front of the Basic Court in Niš during the trial of Milutin Jeličić Jutka, who was accused of sexually harassing Marija Lukić and other employees.
2020.
  • The Global Fund for Women is committed to supporting the Center for Girls for the next three years.
  • The performance of the play Emotional Creature marked International Women’s Day.
  • The number of domestic violence cases skyrocketed during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the SOS helpline of the Center for Girls constantly rang.
  • The Center for Girls organized Creative workshops were held in the organization of the Center for Girls. The Soaping workshop was led by activists Marta and Sanja, and activist Marina led the Collage workshop.
  • On International Day Against Human Trafficking, the activists of the Center for Girls had a dancing performance with Marčelo’s song Cap about labor exploitation.
  • The Center for Girls organized an intersectoral training on Improving Response to Human Trafficking Procedures, with the participation of Nevena Mitić.
  • The Center for Girls was invited to be a guest at the Arts and Human Rights Festival of  the Dah Theater – the performance Women’s Cemetery was held; a conversation about trafficking in women with Nevena Mitić, a survivor of human trafficking, and Eveline Costa, a Brazilian director of the performance Trafficking in Women – Art, Violence, and Reality, in front of a packed hall of UK Stari Grad was led by Tatjana Nikolić, who also held a workshop For a life of women without violence.
  • The Center for Girls marked the International Day Against Femicide.
  • Activists from the Center for Girls supported Polish women with the Right to Legal Abortion street action on the occasion of the decision of Polish officials to make abortion illegal in that country entirely.
  • The International Day of Migrants was marked, and on that occasion, female activists held banners and handed out informative brochures.
2021.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls planted nine Japanese cherry tree seedlings in several locations in Niš.
  • An art exhibition called Boys Don’t Cry, Girls Are Beautiful was opened at the Niš Art Center.
  • Ten girls from Smederevo, Belgrade, and Niš acquired knowledge and skills necessary for peer workshops through training on the topic of prevention of violence against girls, which was led by Marija Virijević and Tatjana Nikolić in Vrnjačka Banja. The Global Fund for Women supported the event.
  • The Center for Girls filmed a documentary Nevena, about Nevena Mitić, a woman who survived human trafficking and now uses her experience to educate others about the dangers of human trafficking. Nevena Mitić, Tatjana Nikolić, Boban Rajković, and Eveline Costa worked on the filming, production, and directing.
  • The ArtFemine festival called Loud and Louder was realized.
  • Three educational workshops on the prevention of human trafficking were held at the School of Textiles and Design in Leskovac, and the workshop was held by the Center’s activist, Danica.
  • Together with women from Leskovac, Dimitrovgrad, Vlasotince, and Užice, the Cen-ter for Girls organized a street action in the world campaign, Rise for/with Women of Afghanistan.
  • Members of the Center for Girls went on a study visit to organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina – the Lara Foundation, the associations Otaharin, Nera, Bolja, and the association Land of Children.
  • On the European Day against Human Trafficking, activists from the Center for Girls performed a street activist-artistic performance, Recognize Human Trafficking and Report It, and the action was supported by the European Union.
  • The executive coordinator of the Center for Girls, Tatjana Nikolić, and the actress of the National Theater in Niš, Dragana Jovanović, performed the play/performance Oxygen. By the beginning of 2023, this performance was completed six times in the country and region, and 10 Japanese cherry trees and two apple trees were planted. Ten more Japanese cherry trees were also planted in the One Billion Rise campaign.
  • On the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, the fourth round table on human trafficking was held as part of the Center for Girls project Improving the fight against  human trafficking in Niš and Leskovac, which is carried out within the project of the NGO Astra Improving space and opportunities for the fight against human trafficking, supported by of the European Union.
  • The Center for Girls supported action titled For our Rights held on the plateau in front of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade on Human Rights Day. On that occasion, the organization got a certificate of appreciation for its contribution to women’s human rights.
2022.
  • The project of the Center for Girls Protecting Young People in Niš from Human Trafficking was supported by the American Embassy in Belgrade.
  • As part of the global campaign One Billion Rising against violence against women, activists from the Center for Girls, in cooperation with Teatro Dance Studio from Niš, danced to the song Break the Chain on the fortress bridge in Niš.
  • The Center for Girls launched the Plant a Tree campaign, which aims to raise the environmental awareness of the citizens of Niš and the whole of Serbia, as well as reduce pollution.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls held a street action with banners for legal and free abortion.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls supported the women of Ukraine with a street action of Solidarity with (and for) the women of Ukraine as part of the global campaign One Billion Rising concerning the war in Ukraine.
  • The Regional Network South had a discussion on March 8 in the Mirror in Dimitrovgrad. The Independent Women’s Center from Dimitrovgrad organized the event, and Daniela Kostov Pejčev led the forum. Marija Trajković (Women for Peace Leskovac), Snežana Daskalović (SOS Vlasotince), and Tatjana Nikolić (Center for Girls) spoke about violence against women, femicide, and sexual violence. After the forum, the activists of the Regional Network South had a street action with banners.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls participated in a conversation with Rada Borić, a feminist, activist, coordinator of the One Billion Rising campaign in Croatia, and director of Women’s Studies in Zagreb, who became a member of the Croatian parliament through political involvement in the We Can! (Možemo) organization.
  • The Center for Girls organized a two-part conference on sexual violence against girls and women and trends in human trafficking, which was attended by representatives of the police administration, the court, the Health Center, the Center for Social Work, the NGO Astra, as well as activists of the Center for Girls.
  • Five female social work students chose the Center for Girls as the place where they would do their professional practice.
  • The Center for Girls joined the cleaning campaign organized by the Green Wall and Green Key organizations.
  • The Center for Girls organized the ninth ArtFemine festival of feminist activism and  women’s art.
  • Activists of the Center for Girls organized the first Feminist-Activist Camp on the Goč mountain.
  • The Center for Girls organized the eighth Feminist Art Colony in Sićevo.
2023.
25 years of the Center for Girls
  • The Center for Girls reacted to the inadequate reaction of the institutions to the case of rape in Niš and organized two street actions Rape is a crime for no reason, and then sent a letter to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, the Protector of Citizens in Niš and the Republic Ombudsman and asked to review the actions of police officers in this case.
  • The Center for Girls is implementing the SAFE project with a series of empowering self-defense workshops for girls and women held in Niš.
  • The Center for Girls is implementing the project Improved Social Cohesion in Niš and South Serbia through the reduction of human trafficking and the increase of resilience of street children. As part of it, a three-day training was held for representatives of institutions, with representatives of the organization the Land of Children, on working with children who live/work on the streets. In the summer, a Day Care Center will be opened, explicitly intended for children who live/work on the streets and/or live in poverty.
  • The Statute of the Center for Girls was amended.
  • The Center for Girls has moved to new premises, so the organization’s address has also changed.
  • This year marks 25 years of the Center for Girls, ten years of the ArtFemine Festival, and nine years of the Feminist Art Colony.
  • This year is the 10th anniversary of the One Billion Rising campaign with the participation of the Center for Girls participation and the 25th anniversary of The Vagina Monologues, with the activists of the Center for Girls performing it for the 14th time. In addition, this year will be the 16th year that the Center for Girls has participated in the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
