12th Feminist Art Colony in Sićevo Brings Together Women Artists from the Region
The 12th Feminist Art Colony was held in Sićevo, bringing together ten women artists from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. During the seven-day colony, the artists created, exchanged experiences, and explored various feminist themes through art, creating a space for connection, dialogue, and collective reflection on women’s artistic expression.
The colony opened despite the rain, with an artistic programme that brought the audience stories of women who, through their work and activism, have left a significant mark on history. Actress Dragana Jovanović performed a play dedicated to Đuka Dinić, opening an important discussion about women’s memory and history.
As has become a tradition, the programme in Sićevo also featured the performance “Nadežda Petrović – Auto-Portrait in the Plural,” performed by Dragana Jovanović and Katarina Mitić Pavlović. Dedicated to Nadežda Petrović, an artist whose name is inseparably connected with Sićevo and the tradition of art colonies, the performance once again brought together art, history, and stories of women who pushed the boundaries of their time.
A rehearsal of the play Women’s Room was also opened at the colony.
The Feminist Art Colony in Sićevo continues the tradition of connecting art and feminist ideas, providing women artists with a space to address, through their work, issues concerning the position of women, gender equality, women’s artistic expression, and social issues that remain important today.
During their stay in Sićevo, the artists had the opportunity to work on their own artistic pieces, as well as to exchange experiences, ideas, and perspectives with fellow artists from the region. Creating a space for connection and empowering women through art is one of the important goals of this colony.
