Women’s March 2026
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a “Women’s March” was held in Niš on March 7, organized by the Center for Girls, the Roma Women’s Association Osvit, and the Women Against Violence Network. This was the fifth March 8th march in Niš. This year’s demand was: SAFETY AND DIGNITY – NOW!
Addressing the public via megaphone were Marica Pajović from the Roma Women’s Association Osvit and Tatjana Nikolić from the Center for Girls.
Sixty participants walked through the central streets of Niš along a 4 km route, carrying banners. Some of the messages sent to fellow citizens included:
We march because femicide is not a “tragedy” — it is the result of a system that fails to protect women; because reports of violence go unanswered; because women’s safety is not a priority. But violence is not the only injustice; women work double — both paid and unpaid labor; they have lower wages, smaller pensions, and greater care responsibilities. And now we are being asked to work longer. We do not accept false equality that ignores the reality of women’s lives.
